AVON, Conn. -- Dahn Yoga has set up shop in Connecticut, promising inner peace and healing -- but their practices have raised concern after the death of a member.
Avon, Conn — 단 요가는 마음속 평화와 회복을 약속하며 Conneticut에서 장사를 한다. 하지만 한 회원이 죽은 후 그들의 수법은 걱정 거리를 많이 일으킨다.
Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Diana Rocco reported Julia Siverls, 41, a college professor, died while practicing Dahn Yoga.
채널3번 ‘Eyewitness News’기자 Diana Rocco는 41세인 대학교수가 단요가 수련을 하다가 죽었다는 것을 보고했다.
"The last time I saw Julia, she was at my niece's wedding reception and she said she was going to Arizona," said Siverls' sister, Veronica Siverls-Dunham.

Siverls traveled to Sedona, Ariz., for master training and to learn to be a healer. Her family said she died of dehydration while hiking with only three bottles of water made available for five people.

Rocco reported several Connecticut members have traveled to the Dahn Yoga healer school in Arizona at a cost of up to $11,000. Rocco는 Connecticut 에 있는 회원들은 $11,000을 주고 Arizona에 있는Dahn Yoga 힐러 스쿨로 여행을 갔다고 한다.
Dahn Yoga representatives told the I-Team they don't believe Siverls' death resulted from their teachings.

The I-Team went undercover for a month at Dahn Yoga's Avon location.

During the first session, members receive a textbook with the teachings of Dr. Ilchi Kee, the founder of the Korean art form. Lee claims to be a spiritual healer with supernatural powers, and he said those who follow him can achieve the same.
첫째 수업에 회원들은 단학을 창시한 Ilchi Kee(일지 기) 박사의 가르침이 들은 교재를 받는다. 이박사는 영적인 회복자와 초능력을 지녔다고 하며, 그를 따르면 누구든지 능력을 발휘 할 수 있다고 한다.
Rocco reported Dahn Yoga members are encouraged to attend at least three sessions a week.
Rocco는 회원자들은 일주일에 3번씩 수업을 들으라고 권장 한다고 한다.
When the I-Team attended class, members participated in exercises like hitting oneself to "stimulate blood flow," pelvic thrusts and jumping up and down -- all followed by yoga movements during which "a vibrating brain" was placed on members' stomachs. Those movements were used to channel energy.
I-Team이 수업을 참석 하면서 회원들은 자신을 몸을 쳐서 피순환 돕기, 골반을 밀어내기, 위아래로 뛰기 같은 운동을 한다. 이를 따라서 “진동하는 뇌(파워브레인)”를 회원들의 배 위에 올려놓고 요가를 진행한다. 이 요가는 기를 모으는데 쓰인다.
During the session, some people started dancing around the room, claiming to be moved by the energy. Members chanted while hitting themselves, "Happy body, healthy heart, power brain."
수업 중에 몇몇의 사람들은 방에서 춤추기 시작했으며, 기의 흐름때문이라고 한다. 회원들은 자신의 몸을 치며 “행복한 신체, 건강한 마음, 강한 두뇌”
The session concluded with a special tea and recanting spiritual experience. The members were often encouraged to stop thinking, and subscribe to the Dahn Yoga method of spirituality.
강의는 특별한 차와 정신적인 경험을 나누는 시간으로 끝났다. 회원들은 생각을 하지 말라는 충고를 받고 단요가의 영적인 길을 따르라고 한다.
Cult expert Steve Hassan is counseling 14 former Dahn Yoga members. He called Dahn Yoga an authoritarian Korean cult. 사이비 종교의 전문가이신 Steve Hassen는 한때 단요가 회원이었던 사람 무려 14과 상담을 한다. 그는 단요가가 한국에 있는 독재적인 사이비 종교라고 한다.
"People that I'm counseling who've been in this group show all the symptoms of other mind-control cults," Hassan said. "In my opinion, this group is one that I'd warn your viewers about."
“저와 상담 하는 사람들 중에 이 단체에 속했던 사람들은 다른 세뇌하는 사이비 증상들을 모두 지니고 있다”고 Hassan씨는 말했다. “제 생각에는 이 단체에 대해서 아주 조심해야 할 것 같아요.”
The I-Team asked the instructors at the Avon center about the cult accusations. One instructor responded, "I don't think this is a cult" before referring the I-Team to the corporate offices.
I-Team은 Avon Center에 있는 교사들에게 사이비에 대한 고발에 대해서 물었다. 한 교사는 “제가 생각 하기엔 그렇지 않아요” 라면서 I-Team을 신고했다.
Critics Claim Relatives Withdrew After Joining

Critics charge that people get too involved, give away all of their possessions and families have seen loved ones change and withdraw.
평론가들은 너무 깊이 빠져든 사람들은 자신의 재산을 다 줘 버리고 가족들은 사랑하던 이가 바뀌고 가족에게서 물러나게 된다고 했다.
Charles Liguidara said his son gave up everything to teach Dahn Yoga, but when he came home for the holidays, the family had an intervention.
Charles Liguidara는 그의 아들이 단요가를 가르치기 위해 모든 것을 버렸으며, 휴일에 집으로 돌아올 때 가족은 다퉜다고 했다.
"It was horrible. I saw, in my mind what I thought I saw, was a cult," Liguidara said.

Dahn Yoga representative Charlotte Connors responded to the cult accusations, saying, "I think that people who might say something like that probably don't have any direct experience with Dahn Yoga."

Lawyers for Dahn Yoga contacted the I-Team, denying claims that this organization is a cult.

The attorneys submitted a statement, as follows:
- "Dahn Yoga empowers individuals to manage their own bodies well in order to become more healthy, happy and peaceful. It is a simple and easy practice based on a variety of Eastern traditions, including yoga, martial arts, breathing techniques and energy training. It uses stretching, breathing and meditation to improve flexibility, circulation and overall mind-body balance."
- 단요가는 자신의 신체를 관리 할 수 있는 힘을 줘서 더 건강하고 행복하고 평화롭게 해준다. 요가, 무술, 숨쉬기운동, 기훈련, 등의 동양의 수법을 통한 아주 쉬운 운동이다. 그것은 스트레칭, 숨쉬기와 명상하기를 통해서 유연성을 발전하고 온몸에 순환과 신체-정신 균형을 향상시키죠.”
The Siverls family has since filed a lawsuit against Dahn Yoga, claiming Siverls was drugged and brainwashed.
Siverls 가족은 그때로부터 Siverls는 세뇌와 마약을 복용했다며 단요가를 소송했다.
The Avon Dahn Yoga center continues to actively recruit new members and insists it's not a cult.
Avon 단요가 센터는 지금도 새 회원을 모집 시키고 있으며 사이비가 아니라고 주장한다.
